What is speaker recognition?

Speaker recognition is the process of automatically recognizing who is speaking on the basis of individual information included in speech waves. Such systems rely on features influenced by the physical structure of an individual’s vocal tract and the behavioural characteristics of the person (motion of the mouth and pronunciation).

Applications of speaker recognition

Speaker Recognition makes it possible to use the speakers' voice to verify their identity for such purposes as

  • Transaction authentication: toll fraud prevention, telephone credit card purchases general queries (available products and services)
  • Monitoring: remote time and attendance logging, prison telephone usage sales orders
